Box One Oversized 31.8 Delta Stem
Box issued an important safety notice and product recall for specific Box One Oversized 31.8 Delta Stems on October 24, 2023.
A manufacturing error may result in failure of the stem faceplate, which may cause the handlebars to become loose and could result in injury to the rider.
Recall Details
Affected Products
The recall applies to the following Box One Oversized 31.8 Delta Stem SKUs:
A small quantity of affected stems had already been sold to distributors, dealers and consumers before the issue was identified.
Hazard
During a quality-control inspection, Box discovered a manufacturing error affecting the faceplate of the stem.
The faceplate was machined slightly too narrow, resulting in thinner wall thickness around the four bolt holes.
This may cause the walls on the outside of the faceplate to tear near the bolts when tightened, potentially resulting in faceplate failure.
A failed faceplate may cause the handlebars to become loose and could result in injury to the rider.
What You Should Do
Immediately quarantine any affected Box One Oversized 31.8 Delta Stem and stop using the product.
Do not continue riding with an affected stem while waiting for your recall claim to be processed.
Recall Remedy
Owners of affected products may receive either:
- A full refund, or
- A replacement with another model stem of the same size.

Stolen Pre-Production Product Warning
Box issued this warning after pre-production products stolen from a warehouse in 2016 were later found being offered for sale.
These products were test items, were never intended for resale and had been superseded by production models. They may be advertised as new or old shop stock and may be missing original product packaging.
The affected pre-production products can be identified using the characteristics below.
Box One 11-Speed Derailleur with Cam-Clutch Technology
Pre-production models are identified by a five-digit serial number on the back of the pulley cage, or the serial number may have been removed.
Pre-production serial range:
00465 through 00965
Legitimate production models sold through Box distributors and dealers used 12-digit serial numbers beginning with B2.
Box One 11-Speed Push-Push Shifter
This was a pre-production version of a model whose production ceased in early 2017.
It can be identified by a five-digit serial number on the underside of the shift lever, or the serial number may have been removed.
Pre-production serial range:
01065 through 01404
Production models sold through Box distributors used 12-digit serial numbers beginning with B2.
Box One 11-Speed Cassette 11–46T
This pre-production product was not offered as a Box One designated production product. The production model was offered as Box Two.
Pre-production units can be identified by an orange anodized lock ring with Box One graphics and by the absence of Box text or logos on the back of the 46T cog.
The actual Box Two production design used a red anodized lock ring.
